Mission Overview
The Director of Family Ministries at First United Methodist Church of Montrose is a visionary leader dedicated to cultivating a vibrant, inclusive and spiritually enriching environment for children and their families. This role serves as a bridge between the church and the local community, designing programs that nurture faith, foster emotional resilience, and provide practical support for families navigating modern life.
The ideal candidate is a compassionate mentor with a heart for service, skilled in building intergenerational connections and leading with both creativity and administrative excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Program Coordination & Leadership
Youth & Children’s Programming: Execute and oversee Sunday school, youth groups, seasonal family events (e.g., Vacation Bible School, holiday programs) and the integration of children/youth into worship services.
Childcare Oversight: Manage and scale childcare services, including Sunday morning nursery, Parents’ Night Out, Quick Care, and other auxiliary programs.
Leadership & Advocacy: Serve as a voting member of the Church Administrative Board, advocating for the needs and interests of families in all church-wide decisions.
Family Advocacy: Act as a primary resource for parents and guardians, offering guidance and connecting families to church and community support systems.
Growth & Community Outreach
Strategic Communications: In collaboration with the Director of Communications, create compelling content across digital platforms, newsletters and social media to keep families engaged and informed. Promote community-wide offerings including Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Mission Trips and childcare services.
Community Outreach: Develop partnerships with local schools and organizations to expand the church’s impact within the Montrose community.
Administration & Safety
Staff Safety & Compliance: Recruit, mentor, and train volunteers and childcare staff to ensure excellence in ministry, including required training such as Safe Sanctuary protocols, First-Aid/CPR and more.
Financial Stewardship: Manage the Family Ministries budget and explore fundraising initiatives to support new ministry goals.
Qualifications
Experience: Proven track record in children’s ministry, education, social work, or a related field. Experience in leadership roles.
Skills: Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills; ability to relate to both children and adults.
Values: An understanding of foundational Christian mission and theology.
Logistics: Must pass a comprehensive background check and be available for Sunday morning services and occasional evening meetings.
Extra credit: Experience with fundraising, mentoring, event planning and operation.

Mission Overview
The Director of Administrative Ministries provides vital clerical and logistical support to the pastor, staff and congregation. This role serves as a primary point of contact for the church office, ensuring that daily operations align with the church’s missions and that members and guests feel welcomed and well-informed.
Key Responsibilities
- Office Operations: Manage daily office tasks including answering telephones, greeting visitors, responding to emails and handling incoming/outgoing email.
- Worship Support: Gather materials for weekly services; design, print and prepare worship bulletins.
- Records Management:
Maintain and update church databases (e.g. Breeze), including membership directories, attendance ledgers and visitor records.
- Logistics & Scheduling: Manage the church’s master calendar, including facility use requests for weddings, funerals and community meetings.
- Pastoral Support: Assist the pastor with clerical tasks, scheduling appointments and preparing reports for Charge/Church Conferences or congregational meetings.
Qualifications
- Possess general administrative skills such as typing, filing, grammar and general computer knowledge.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs; one year experience preferred. Willingness to learn new software and database systems.
- Enjoy working with all kinds of people, have the ability to make comfortable a wide variety of individuals in person and over the telephone; one year in customer service preferred.
- Good listener, understand and observe confidentiality.
- Ability to move from one task to another with ease, the position can be fast-paced and require resilience.
- Education:
High School or equivalent
- Extra Credit: Working knowledge of church policies, practices and procedures.
