Montrose United Methodist

Kelly Thompson

Director of Music

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in 2003 from Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado. I have an endorsement in ELL (English Language Learners) and taught in the Montrose-Olathe School District for ten years.

I started piano lessons at the age of seven and began playing piano in my dad's church (he is a retired American Baptist minister) at the age of twelve.  At the age of 21 I began directing the choir in that church . I moved my membership to the Methodist Church in 1988 and began playing organ and piano for St. Paul's United Methodist Church in downtown Denver. It was there that I also started a choir and directed it until my departure for Montrose in 1998. I played piano for the Baptist Church in Montrose and attended here at Montrose United Methodist Church until I applied for the job of accompanist for the Contemplative Service, which began in 1999. At that time, I began devoting all my energy to Montrose United Methodist Church and was active in starting a contemporary worship service, out of which the Celebration Voices choir was born. I am very blessed and honored to have been given the position of Director of Music Ministries here at Montrose United Methodist Church.

Favorite Movie

The Bucket List - I appreciate its message that life is precious; don't just sit around waiting for it to happen -- get out there and live it!

Favorite Book

Natalie Babbitt's Tuck Everlasting is one of the most beautifully written books I've ever read. She does a great job of conveying imagery in her writing.

Favorite Bible Verse

Matthew 6:27-29 – “Who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.”Â…This verse really inspires me to completely trust in God and all He does for His children.
